🇭🇺 Hungarian Testing System (MVK)

The traditional European testing track used in Hungary to evaluate and approve breeding stock for continental pointing dogs.

• AV (Alapvizsga / Natural Ability Test): An entry test for young dogs assessing innate traits like pointing, search drive, tracking, and basic swimming.

• VMV (Nimród / Field and Water Trial): An advanced test featuring specialized field quartering, double blind land retrieves, and a dead duck search in water.

A highly structured German tracking system that grades both raw hunting instinct and advanced, rigid obedience.

• VJP (Verbands-Jungendprüfung / Spring Puppy Test): Evaluates natural abilities (tracking, nose, search, pointing) and gun-shot stability in young dogs.

• HZP (Herbstzuchtprüfung / Autumn-Breed Test): Held in the fall; scores advanced natural traits alongside trained water work and retrieval of lost game.

🧬 Health Screenings & Genetic Testing

These clearances ensure breeding dogs are physically healthy and free from heritable diseases.

• OFA Clearances (Hips, Elbows, Cardiac, Eyes): X-rays and physical exams certified by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals to rule out dysplasia, heart defects, and eye diseases.

• ECLE (Exfoliative Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus): A genetic test for a severe, inherited autoimmune skin disease found in certain pointing breeds (like the German Shorthaired Pointer and Vizsla) that causes hair loss, skin scaling, and crusting.

• HUU (Hyperuricosuria): A DNA test for a mutation that causes high uric acid levels, which can lead to painful bladder or kidney stones.

• Furnishing Gene (FF vs Ff): Determines coat type (like the beard and eyebrows on wirehaired breeds). FF dogs carry two copies of the wire hair gene and will always pass it on; Ff dogs carry one copy and carry a "furnishing-less" or smooth coat gene.
